Product Description

Something to aim at is a film that told the story of Tom Simpson - who he was, where he came from and what he achieved. After it was released, so many people contacted the producer with their own personal memories of meeting Tom, that he felt another, more in-depth film, should be made about him.

The World of Tommy Simpson is a film that takes a closer look at Tom through the eyes of the people who knew him well, including: Tom's parents - a 1968 interview, recorded just a few months after his death, they speak of his early days in Harworth and his determination to succeed. Jane and Joanne Simpson - his two daughters who have very special memories. Dave Marsh and Len Jones - who devote much of their time to looking after the Tom Simpson Collection in Harworth. Phil Pilley - the BBC producer who became a close friend after meeting Tom on the Tour de France. Roger St Pierre - the well known cycling journalist and friend of Tom. This film contains footage of the great man in action, including Tom riding in the Brussels Six Day Race with the legendary Peter Post, and the BBC film from 1965. All of which adds up to the story that is The World of Tommy Simpson. The BBC film is a fascinating documentary. Containing extremely rare archive footage, it is a very special piece of cycling history, as Tom talks very frankly about his goals, cycling and what it takes to be a champion. It is unmissable. A Ray Pascoe film Written & narrated by Ray Pascoe.
